The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay systems.
Video review systems are set to arrive at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.
Competitors are granted the ability to challenge particular decisions made by the chair umpire, following the practice currently in use at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.
This innovation will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One throughout the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles matches.
This development follows just a season following the AELTC rolled out electronic line calling, which brought an end to the longstanding tradition of line judges.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Competitors will not be permitted to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the official to review other decisions, such as:
- Whether a ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a ball touched an opponent's racquet or body during play.
- Potential hindrance end of a point.
Importantly, there is an unlimited number on the amount of challenges a competitor can request.
Practical Application
A recent incident occurred in a recent tournament recently, where a top player initiated the video challenge against Jack Draper.
Draper admitted it was a tough situation for the official, but believed his opponent had "played the rules quite well."
The umpire viewed a replay and ruled the player was responsible for interference, awarding the rally to his opponent.
Wider Implementation
Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. It was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have video reviews in place at every one of its events.
Other Changes
Another innovation at The Championships this year will be the addition of graphical cues on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This addresses situations where fans have sometimes been unsure if a shot was out or in.
In other news, with exactly a century of days to go until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have further announced an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
